Let’s protect New Braunfels together - one backflow test at a time.

Backflow occurs when water flows in the opposite direction of its intended path - allowing potentially contaminated water from a private system to enter the public drinking water supply. This can happen when there’s a sudden drop in water pressure, such as during a water main break or heavy system use. Contaminants like fertilizers, pesticides, bacteria, or chemicals from irrigation systems, swimming pools, medical equipment, or commercial plumbing can be pulled into the public system if not properly contained.

To prevent this risk, New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) requires the installation and annual testing of backflow prevention assemblies on any system that poses a potential hazard to the water supply. This includes residential and commercial irrigation systems, pools and spas, restaurants and food service equipment, medical or dental offices, car washes, and more. These assemblies act as one-way valves, ensuring water flows in only one direction - protecting our community’s drinking water from accidental contamination.
